Iwakiyama Shrine
Gateway to Mount Iwaki, the sacred mountain of Tsugaru.
An ancient shrine at the foot of Mount Iwaki, the most prominent peak in the Tsugaru region. The mountain has been worshipped as a sacred site since time immemorial.
神社歷史緣起
Iwakiyama Shrine was established over 1,200 years ago to worship the kami of Mount Iwaki (1,625m), often called 'Tsugaru Fuji' for its beautiful conical shape. The mountain has been a center of Shugendo mountain worship and local folk beliefs for centuries.
The shrine consists of multiple buildings at different elevations, with the main shrine at the foot and a summit shrine (Okumiya) at the peak of the mountain, reachable only during summer months.
