A quiet, historic shrine located across the river from Byodoin Temple. Its main hall dates back to the Heian period (c. 1060), making it the oldest existing Shinto shrine structure.

As one of Japan's oldest shrine buildings (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Ujigami Shrine holds intimate and solemn ceremonies rather than large-scale festivals. The annual Reisai in November honors the shrine's deities with traditional Shinto rituals. The離宮祭 in May commemorates the shrine's connection to the imperial court. Throughout the year, special tea ceremonies are occasionally held in the adjacent Ujigami Shrine tea house, reflecting Uji's famous tea culture.
